Chapter 108
“I know all of that. I’m sure you can handle it, but if you ever need help, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.“N
My aunt cut me off gently, her voice filled with reassurance. Her words made me realize something I had known but never fully understood: someone who truly loves you will never force you to expose the scars you’ve worked so hard to heal.
I had thought that Shena would eventually give up, but to my surprise, every day after that, she showed up at the door of my aunt’s company, carrying a food box in her hand–rain or shine.N
I instructed the security guards not to let her in and I started using the underground garage to avoid her. But some observant people recognized her as the female president of the Collins Group and before I knew it, news spread like wildfire. The media buzzed with reports that the Collins and Aldine families were about to join forces.N
This revelation drew not only curious onlookers hoping to catch a glimpse of the real president but also many of the company’s partners, who eagerly sought information, both openly and secretly. The company’s stock, which had barely stabilized after the leadership change, began to fluctuate once more.
I realized that I couldn’t let Shena jeopardize everything my aunt had worked for. I pulled out my phone and made a call to Master Collins before slowly walking out of the company’s front door.
When Shena saw me, the despair in her eyes instantly disappeared. She took a step forward, holding back her excitement and quickly opened the food box, offering it to me.§
“Theo, this is the tomato scrambled eggs I made especially for you. Please try it.”
I didn’t take the food. Instead, I took a step back, coldly replying, “Isn’t this your favorite dish?”
Without wanting to engage in further explanation, I added, “I’m tired of eating it.”
The truth was, I had been allergic to eggs since childhood. But because this was the only dish Shena could cook, I had always taken my allergy medicine in advance and pretended to enjoy it just to make her happy. But now, I couldn’t pretend anymore.}]
Embarrassed, Shena placed the food box aside and quickly spoke again. “Theo, are you still angry with me? I’ve made inquiries and I’ve learned that General Manager Aldine is only your aunt. There’s nothing more to it. Can you forgive me?”
“I didn’t know Billie would bribe the person in charge of the island to release a poisonous snake to bite Bastian. I only wanted him to be a good heir to the Collins Family. He was the child I desperately wanted, how could I ever want his life?”
She paused for a moment, her voice quivering. “It’s all because Billie lied to me. I thought he was the one who made me wake up and I believed you were with me only for the Collins Family’s wealth. I was angry that you had lied to me, so I treated you terribly.”
She wiped her eyes quickly, then continued, “It was him who made me misunderstand you. It was him who plotted to kill Bastian. I’ve already called the police to send him to jail and I’ve gotten rid of that child. Let’s start over, okay?“}
With those words, she took out the divorce agreement we had once signed and tore it up in front of me.
Watching her destroy her copy of the divorce agreement, I didn’t feel any sense of pain. Instead, I was filled with a deep sense of disbelief. Even if she pushed all the blame onto Billie, wasn’t she still responsible for Bastian’s death?}]
Unable to contain myself any longer, I slapped Shena across the face.
“How can you say such things?” I spat.”
Shena stood frozen, her face still burning from the slap. She covered her cheek, tears welling up in her eyes.
But I wasn’t done yet. My anger only grew stronger and I spoke again, my voice shaking with emotion.}
“If you really loved me, you would never have blindly believed Billie’s lie about saving you!”
“If you truly loved Bastian, you would never have forced such a young child to go to that island in the first place!”
“And if you had respected us at all, how could Billie have been able to manipulate others into causing Bastian’s death?”
