Chapter 11
Dad’s hands were trembling as he read the letter and then the tears came–rushing down like a flood, washing over his face twisted in grief.”
At that moment, he looked like he’d aged ten years. He covered his face and just broke down–sobbing, choking on every sound.
In the end, Blaire was sentenced to ten years for hiring someone to hurt me. Her little gang of thugs? They got time too.
As Uncle Olf and I walked out of the police station, arms linked, Orville came running after us.
“Presley! Don’t go! Please, don’t go! Your dad might’ve turned their back on you, but my family will always be your home. I’ll always be your husband!”
I turned around and looked at him… and in my head, I heard his words all over again.
‘Please, talk some sense into her. If she won’t apologize and beg Blairie for forgiveness… I can’t stay with her anymore.“}
He didn’t even ask earlier what was right or wrong–just decided I was guilty.
“Orville. The moment you left with Blaire, you betrayed me. You stopped being my husband right then and there.“}
But that asshole really still had the nerve to grab my hand in stupid desperation.”
“Presley, I–I was caught up in the moment. I thought she didn’t deserve to die like that. I just… I just pitied her. But the one I love–it’s always been you!”
I let out a soft, tired laugh.
“Really? Well, I don’t love you anymore. Because the Orville I loved? He’s already dead. And when he died–my love died with him.
“The man standing in front of me now… He loves Blaire. He believes everything she says. He forgives everything she does. Ten years? That’s nothing. She’ll get out eventually, and when she does–you two can live happily ever after.”}
He snapped, shouting, “She’s a monster! A dangerous woman! You think I like someone like that?! No, I could never love a criminal!“} I let out a bitter chuckle.
“Come on, you already have a child with her. Whether you like it or not, you’re bound with that criminal in this lifetime.”
He froze–like he just remembered something–then suddenly turned and ran back into the police station.
Uncle Olf and I just got in the car. I never looked back.”
My father didn’t just give me the 80 million mom left behind. He also handed me 50% of the company.
Uncle Olf accepted it on my behalf.}
“Presley, this is yours. Your mom traded her youth for this. You’re her daughter–you should carry that legacy forward.“}
With Uncle Olf behind me, I started my own company: GraciePresley Co.
My mom’s name was Gracie–a gentle soul who loved fiercely and hated with dignity.
My father visited me sornetimes–bringing me clothes and soup.
He still sent me messages when the season changed, reminding me to wear more layers. But those messages just sat on Telegram, unread.
“Get out of this family. Don’t ever come back!” Those words from my own father… They cut me deep more than my husband’s affair or my sister’s attempts to kill me.
It’s still within me, a splinter stuck in my chest. That divide between me and my father? it could never be crossed again.
A father is supposed to be a daughter’s mountain, her strength. But mine? He wasn’t. I don’t exactly hate him. But I don’t love him anymore either.
I heard Orville ended up in jail. Rumor has it that he stormed into the station and kicked Blaire–so hard, she flew.
That kick landed right on her belly. She never got to cry out, “Orville, my belly hurts…” Never again.
Because when a real miscarriage hits… it hurts so bad, your face contorts and you can’t even scream.
She dropped to the floor–and that was it.
But Orville didn’t stop. He kept kicking her, screaming at her, “You’re a psycho! A fucking piece of trash! You ruined me! You ruined everything‘”
But the truth is no one ruined him. He destroyed himself.
Love real love–it’s about principles. About standing firm. Not swaying with the wind.
Orville was sentenced to a year for intentional harm Blaire actually tried to withdraw the charges–but only if he gave her half of his company’s shares
Omille flat–out refused. Laughed in her face Called her delusional
