Chapter 78
“Mr. Sykes–whatever’s going on with your family, don’t drag us into it, please!”
The thugs all fell to their knees, slamming their foreheads against the floor in panic.
From the hallway, a sickeningly sweet voice called out,”
“Dad? Orville? How could you use my sister’s blood for me?!!
“I need to apologize to her. Let me see her now.“]
“Huh? Why’s the door locked? I hear voices inside…“}]
The next second, the door burst open with a loud crack.
“Presley! I came to see you, 1-“}
Blaire’s cheerful voice died in her throat the moment her eyes met Uncle Olf’s. The smug smile on her face froze, and her voice turned shaky.
“Uncle Olf? W–What… what are you doing here?“\
Her eyes darted around–first to me, disheveled on the bed, then to the group of thugs. But before anyone could speak, she lunged forward and threw her arms around me.
“Presley! You… you shouldn’t have done this! You got upset at Orville and went looking for attention from strange men?” she said, loud enough for everyone to hear. “Do you have any idea how embarrassing this is for him?”
My father’s eyes blazed. He took two angry strides toward me, hand raised to strike.
“You ungrateful brat! Your mother died early, and I must’ve spoiled you rotten–look at you now!“}]
But before my father’s hand could land, Uncle Olf caught his wrist mid–air, rage pouring from his eyes.}}
“Clemence–you’re gonna hit your wife’s daughter? Right in front of me?! Who the hell do you think you are?!“}
Uncle Olf’s stare was ice cold, and my father actually backed off–his voice shrank with him.§
He gave this awkward little cough.
“W–Wolfgang. You’re back.
“You don’t understand. She’s been rebellious. Disrespectful. Always causing chaos in the family. And now, this… scandal? I just-“}} “Rebellious?” Uncle Olf growled. “Go ahead. Tell your dead wife how your daughter disrespected you. Say it in front of her. Explain why her daughter deserves to be yelled at and hit.”
He slammed my mom’s memorial tablet down on the table.
The second I saw her picture, I broke. The tears just came.
So Mom hadn’t abandoned me.[
She’d loved me–but she’d been in pain.
She had held onto her dignity, trying not to rob me of my status as the legitimate daughter. And in the end, she suffered in silence. My father looked at the photo and turned his head, shame flickering across his face.
“Wolfgang, come on… there’s no need to drag your sister into this. Let her rest.“}
Uncle Olf looked at him, then glanced at Blaire and Orville.
“Rest?
“You let your illegitimate daughter sleep with her sister’s fiancé and get pregnant–and that’s ‘not a big deal‘?
“You forced your eldest daughter to give blood to your mistress’s kid–and that’s ‘not a big deal‘?!!
“You let your legitimate daughter get harassed by these thugs and did nothing–and that’s just a small matter to you?!”
Uncle Olf choked on his own fury, his eyes glistening.
Orville pulled Blaire behind him and stepped up, trying to explain.
“Uncle Olf, it’s not what you think. Presley was just mad at me–she wanted to make me jealous. She’s a proper young lady–who’d dare lay a hand on her?”
That was it
Uncle Off’s eyes darkened–and he snapped. One punch–right to Orville’s face.
“You piece of shit! You really think she’d set herself up like that just to get your attention?! What kind of twisted logic is that?!” Orville hit the floor, holding his face
Women lose their minds when they’re jealous! She just couldn’t stand Blaire being here–Presley wanted her half–sister gone, that’s all Uncle Off was beyond words. He turned and kicked one of the thugs.
“You–say what you said earlier! Every single word““%
The guy flinched as he looked at Blaire–who was staring daggers at him.
Caught in the middle, the guy finally let out a cry
“Thes aint my business! Miss Blaire–I’m out! I’m not doing this job anymore! fil give back what you paid me! Just tell ‘em it was you who hired me I had nothing to do with any of this!
