“Sia, today’s Sebastian’s 33rd birthday. Come join us for dinner, okay?” June said.
Hearing the words “33rd birthday” made my heart tighten instinctively. I finally saved Sebastian.
I let out a soft sigh of relief and smiled. “Of course! I’ll be there,” I said.
That evening, when I returned home, Sebastian’s parents had already prepared a table full of delicious food.
June, as she always did, wiped her hands dry on her apron and pulled me into a big, warm hug.
“Sia, welcome home,” she said.
Seeing such a familiar, cozy scene before me, my eyes filled with tears.
This time, Sebastian’s parents didn’t hate me because of his death. Everything was just like it used to be.
When June saw my tears, she laughed so hard she could barely speak. “This child–it’s been too long since you’ve been home. Look at you, crying from being so touched.”
She chuckled as she wiped my tears away, and for the first time in a long while, the tight knot in my chest finally loosened
completely.

Chapter 8
While chatting casually with Sebastian’s parents, I finally learned the full truth behind Gillian’s car accident.

“Turns out she was set up. Her ex–boyfriend orchestrated it. He pretended to be rich, and after Gillian exposed and dumped him,
he got bitter and angry. That’s why he planned the accident.
“Evil gets what it deserves. Even though she survived the accident, her life didn’t turn out well afterward.
“I heard she tried being a homewrecker not long ago, but the wife caught her and beat her black and blue. Now people recognize her on the street and curse her everywhere she goes.”
I sighed softly, completely agreeing with Callum’s comment, “What goes around, comes around. Good and evil would always find
their karma.”
Just then, the doorbell rang. I opened the door and found myself staring straight into Sebastian’s warm eyes.
He smiled gently and said, “Long time no see, Sia.”
The sight of him triggered a rush of fragmented memories.
A week ago, the university announced a new opportunity. Professors from our department had a chance to be selected for a top
research institute.
As the most promising young professor in the department, my name was naturally included on the shortlist.
The top research institute was a dream for many of us, and I was no exception.
But just days before the final announcement, new eligibility rules were introduced.
Because of my age, I was disqualified and removed from the candidate list.
I had casually complained to Sebastian about it once, never expecting that he would actually remember.
