Chapter 8
“I avenged you. I took revenge for what happened then! Will you forgive me now?”
Hearing this, I didn’t know if I should laugh.
The events back then were clearly his fault. Why was he acting innocent?
Seeing my silence, Asher suddenly grabbed my hand.
I looked at him, perplexed, not understanding his intentions.
“We were together for so many years! How could you marry someone else?”
“I know you love me. You only love me!”
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and pulled my hand away.
“Are you crazy, Asher? It’s been ten years, and you haven’t grown up at all!”
Asher’s face looked like it had been struck by lightning.
Seeing he wouldn’t stop, Jude pulled me behind him, his deep voice full of warning.
“CEO Asher, please stop harassing my wife, or I’ll have to take action!”
Asher seemed not to hear Jude’s warning, his gaze still locked on me, stubborn and unwilling.
“Cora, you can’t just leave. We have so many memories. Have you forgotten those times?”
His voice trembled, as if I were his only salvation in this world.
Desperation and madness flashed in his eyes.
“No, I won’t let you take Cora away!”
Jude pulled me behind him, his deep voice filled with warning.
CEO Asher, stop bothering my wife, or you’ll face the consequences.”
Asher seemed unfazed by Jude’s warning, his gaze still locked on me, his face a mix of reluctance and stubbornness.
“Cara, you can’t just leave like this. We have so many memories. Have you forgotten those days?”
His voice trembled, as if I were his last hope in this world.
Despair and madness flickered in his eyes.

His voice trembled, as if I were his last hope in this world.
Despair and madness flickered in his eyes.
“No, I won’t let you take Cora away!
“Cora, you belong with me!”
He suddenly shouted, drawing the attention of everyone around us.
Airport security noticed the commotion and started heading our way.
I looked at Asher, almost frenzied, feeling a mix of emotions.
The man who once filled me with joy had become this.
I took a deep breath, trying to keep my voice steady.
“Asher, calm down. We ended a long time ago. Over the past ten years, I’ve started a new life. You should move on too.”
“Our issues were never about Daphne. You pushed me away, Asher. If anyone is to blame for our failed relationship, it’s you!”
“As for Daphne, she was just a catalyst! You chose to believe in her and developed feelings for her. Whether you accept it or not, that’s the
truth.”
“I don’t want to make this ugly. I just want to tell you, we really have no future.”
“Take care of yourself.”
After I said that, Asher seemed frozen.
His body trembled slightly, the madness on his face gradually fading, replaced by endless sadness and confusion.
He opened his mouth, unable to speak, as if ali his words were caught in his throat.
He knew deep down that, after all these years, nothing would come of it.
Jude tried to lead me away, and Asher hesitated for a moment but eventually stepped back slowly.
It was as if all his strength had left him, and he leaned against the wall.
But his eyes still followed me, trying to imprint me into his heart.
Outside the airport, Jude hailed a taxi. Once inside, he held my hand tightly.
I knew he was curious about my past, but he never asked, not wanting to upset me.
“Can I tell you once we get back?”
Jude paused, then smiled and hugged me. “It’s okay, I respect your wishes.”
“Whenever you’re ready to tell me, I’ll be here without pushing you.”
“Cora, I’ll always be by your side, your strongest support.”
Looking at his serious face and gentle eyes, my eyes welled up with tears, and I nodded.
The car started slowly, the street scenes outside quickly retreating.
Leaning on Jude’s shoulder, my thoughts drifted to the past.
I once thought Asher would be my lifelong support. We’d walk through every season together, but reality was harsh.
Now, I have Jude. He’s given me a sense of security and love I’ve never felt before, allowing me to appreciate life’s beauty again.

A few days later, Jude and I visited my mother’s grave. I placed a bouquet in front of the tombstone.
“Mom, I brought Jude to see you. He’s good to me, and I’m happy now.”
Jude also nodded solemnly at the tombstone. “Mom, rest assured, I’ll take good care of Cora.
Looking at my mother’s photo on the tombstone, it felt like she was smiling and blessing us.
As we left the cemetery, I noticed a familiar figure not far away. It was Asher.
He stood under a tree, quietly watching us, his expression complex and pained.
I paused, then held Jude’s hand, quickening our pace to leave.
I knew Asher’s presence was just a coincidence. His life no longer concerned me, and I wouldn’t let his actions affect me anymore.
