Chapter 5
Normally, I was kind to Asher’s Secretary, so she was the only one who comforted me after I resigned.
If it weren’t for Asher’s close relationship with Daphne, she wouldn’t want to interact with her at all.
Now, seeing Daphne’s smug face, the Secretary felt even more uncomfortable.
Daphne was taken aback, shaking her head in denial, “How could that be? I was just waiting to give them a wedding gift!”
She hoped the Secretary would agree with her as usual.
But the Secretary thought her reaction was strange and chose to remain silent.
Daphne sensed something was off, covering her aching abdomen with tears brimming in her eyes, “Come on, I really didn’t mean it. I was just anxious, you know I didn’t mean it like that!”
After all, she was the one Asher cherished, and the Secretary didn’t want to be cold–hearted, so she forced a smile, “Don’t be upset. CEO Asher was just worried. Let me help you rest for a bit,”
Daphne was supported by the Secretary down the stairs, and at this time, the people left in the living room were whispering.
“What is going on? I saw CEO Asher sign the agreement that day, and wasn’t he about to get married?”

“Yeah, could something have happened? Could Cora’s resignation be related to this?”
“It probably isn’t.” One of them suddenly remembered something, and a few of them huddled together, whispering mysteriously, “Could it be because Daphne accidentally killed Cora’s puppy?”
“Oh right, I think I saw Cora taking her puppy to the funeral home.”
“But Cora loves CEO Asher so much, why would she break up with him?”
“And look at how anxious CEO Asher is, it doesn’t seem like…”
Daphne heard all of this, and the Secretary felt her grip on her shoulder stiffen.
Jealousy and resentment flashed in Daphne’s eyes, but then she thought, I’ve already left.
Becoming Mrs. Asher, could it still be far away?
Asher entered my room, originally the nanny room, where I moved after Daphne returned.
The room was small, but I kept it tidy and cozy.
He had come just a few days ago and remembered the color of the little flowers in the vase that day.
But now, the whole room was empty, left in a dead gray, with no trace of me.
This…
“Cora!” Asher murmured, feeling like a piece of his heart was missing, a strange sense of panic spreading inside him, as if something was slipping out of his control.
But after all, he was the CEO of the group, and Asher managed to control his emotions.
I no longer had any family in this world, not even friends.
For years, I revolved around him, and the only person who might know the truth was my mentor.
When Asher rushed to the school, my Professor was in class.
He had to wait at the door, and the students passing by couldn’t help but turn to look at the handsome, cold man.
Normally, Asher hated being the center of attention, but now his mind was fully occupied with finding me, not noticing the curious glances.
It took a full hour before my mentor finished class.
“Professor Johnson!” Asher stepped forward in two steps, asking directly, “Do you know where Cora went?”
“She’s missing, I can’t find her!”
For the first time, the usually high–and–mighty CEO Asher showed panic and anxiety on his face, with large beads of sweat dripping from his forehead.
The mentor just looked at Asher and immediately understood. No wonder I had suddenly agreed to the Rocket Development Program.
Having been by his side for seven or eight years during my master’s and PhD studies, he knew what kind of person I was.
If it weren’t for the fact that I already had someone in my heart, he would have wanted to introduce me to his son.
I must have been so disappointed to leave without a word.
He was still angry, and Asher walked right into it. He wasn’t going to be polite, “I was going to ask you what’s going on!”
CEO Asher, what right do you have to question me here?”
