The birthday banquet ended abruptly that day.
Jack’s family’s direct relatives all went to the hospital, leaving only the butler to see guests out.
I saw Jack hurriedly grabbing his coat to leave, but Chloe caught his sleeve.
She hung her head, explaining something in a low voice.
“Can’t you see I’m in a hurry?” Jack’s tone was cold.
She awkwardly withdrew her hand and went with him to change shoes in the foyer.
Jack finally couldn’t hold back:
“You dare to follow? Are you trying to anger Grandpa to death?”

The remaining guests‘ gazes converged on them. Jack turned and left, leaving his newlywed wife to endure the scrutiny alone.
“Jack!” I called out to him, “Let me know on SnapChat when Grandpa is okay.”
After all, he was someone who had been kind to me, watched me grow up.
Jack nodded at me and rushed into the night.
Fortunately, Grandpa wasn’t in serious condition.
He had a sudden stroke, but with timely treatment, there was no danger to his life.
When i went to visit the next day, I was surprised to be stopped by Chloe at the hospital entrance:
“Miss Miss Ye, when you see Jack later, could you ask him to look at the SnapChat messages i sent?”
Her tone was timid, lacking the confident air she had when she felt secure in Jack’s love.
1 was confused.

“Isn’t he just inside? Why don’t you go in and find him yourself?”
After all, it was so cold outside, and she was waiting outside the hospital building with nowhere warm to stay.
Chloe bit her lip hard, glancing at the security booth.
I finally understood – Jack’s family must have instructed security not to let her in.
Jack was leaning against the corridor wall outside the hospital room, dark circles under his eyes, stubble on his chin.
I don’t know if he had spent the whole night reflecting on his marriage and love life.
I suddenly remembered:
“Your wife asked you to check your SnapChat.”
Jack looked at me, his eyes full of complex emotions. After a long while, he said:
“Zoe, I’ve made a fool of myself.”
I didn’t want to disturb the patient’s rest, so I didn’t stay long.
As I was leaving, Jack walked me out.
“Zoe, thank you for coming to see Grandpa.”
“About what happened before, I…”
linterrupted him:
“Grandpa has always been good to me. He taught me calligraphy and chess when I was little.”
“Jack, our grievances have nothing to do with him.”
He nodded slowly, not saying anything more.
Chloe saw us come out and ran over eagerly, slipping on the snow.
But Jack didn’t even glance at her.
He politely said goodbye to me, then turned and went back into the hospital.
