Q3
I couldn’t help but giggle at his antics. Feeling like the moment was right, I said, “Okay, cover your eyes. I have a surprise for you.”
Leo reached out, pulling me into a hug and whining playfully, “Tell me now, baby.”
My face flushed, and I wriggled out of his embrace, pretending to be stern. “Hurry, cover your
eyes.”
Leo reluctantly covered his eyes. I carefully presented the mango mousse cake I’d painstakingly made, eagerly anticipating his surprised reaction.
But when Leo saw the cake, he swallowed hard, and his eyes darted away. “This cake…” He fiddled with his knife and fork, his pupils slightly dilating, and asked, “Why did you suddenly make
this?”
I cut a slice of the cake and explained, “You’ve been drinking a lot at work events lately and kept mentioning mango mousse cake, so I wanted to surprise you. Don’t you like it?”
But instead of the happy reaction I’d pictured, Leo just forced a smile, grabbed a piece of
cake, and started eating it in big bites, saying, “I really like it, thanks, baby.”
“I’m glad you like it,” I said, looking down. “Eat up, there’s an even bigger surprise coming.”
Leo’s hand suddenly froze, and the fork clattered to the floor. “What surprise?” His voice
sounded a little nervous.
1 smiled, pulled out a tissue, and gently dabbed the sweat from his forehead, saying, “Keep
eating.”

I slowly squatted down, took his wrist in my hand, and knelt on one knee. With heartfelt
emotion, I said, “Dear Mr. Leo, hello. This marks our eighth year together, from the time I was 18
until now, at 25. I still remember the first time I saw you; you were wearing a white shirt, and your smile was so bright, with a deep dimple in your right cheek. You’ve always taken such good care of me over the years, teaching me so much and helping me become a better person. I hope that in the future, we can have a baby who loves to laugh just like you. When I was 18, you bravely
confessed your feelings to me. Now, at 25, I want to propose. Will you marry me?
Just then, “ding!” My phone suddenly rang. Leo almost instinctively reached into his pocket, answered the phone, and said, “Okay, okay, I’ll be right there.” His voice was filled with relief.
As he stood up, his arm knocked over the wine glass on the table, spilling red wine
everywhere, and scattering shards of glass across the floor. “Baby, there’s an emergency at
work. The client’s unhappy with my proposal and wants a refund, threatening to complain. I have to deal with it immediately.” Leo finished speaking, grabbed a coat, and rushed out.
I stared blankly at the ring he’d carelessly tossed beside a red wine stain. Bending to pick it up, I accidentally cut my hand on a shard of glass. Fresh blood dripped onto the floor, mixi with the wine and staining the white tiles red.

Just then a message notification popped up on my phone. Numb, I opened my phone to see that Cherry had upated her Moments. It was a picture of her holding hands with a man.
