Chapter 9
Elliot looked at me like a pitiful stray dog.
He said, “You still care about me, don’t you? Juliet, look at me.
“I finally understand now that the person I truly like was never Lucia, but you, Juliet!
“I’ve cut ties with Lucia and told Parker your true identity. From now on, you’ll be the heir to the Harris family.
“Lucia’s reputation is completely ruined, and her shares have been taken back. No one will like her anymore, and no one will dare to bully you again.
“Can our relationship go back to what it was before?”
I silently stepped back, just quietly looking into his eyes.
At this moment, I couldn’t distinguish between his genuine feelings and possible pretense.
If he truly loved me, why would he only realize it now?
If he only recognized his feelings for me because I was marrying someone else, how could I judge the authenticity of this love?
Was he acting out of genuine affection for me, or just momentary possessiveness?
Chapter 9
If his heartfelt confession had arrived just a few days earlier, perhaps I would have fallen for him again.
However, since I had already chosen to let go, I would never
look back.

Seeing no response from me, Elliot hurriedly stepped forward and grabbed my wrist, pleading, “You and Jared are only engaged, you haven’t actually married him. There’s still a chance for us, isn’t there?
“You’ve been waiting for me, right? Juliet, say something!
“Come with me, will you? Come with me…”
I frowned, trying to free myself from his grip, but couldn’t break loose.
He stubbornly and determinedly tried to drag me out the door, ignoring the cold night air while I was wearing only a thin nightgown.
Suddenly, a voice came through: “Mr. Wilson.”
I suddenly felt warmth on my arm.
Looking back, I saw Jared had arrived just in time.
Jared stood in front of Elliot. He was slightly taller than Elliot and looked down at him, saying displeased, “You came to my home trying to steal my fiancée. Don’t you think that’s quite
Chapter 9 disrespectful?”
Jared’s words made Elliot’s face flush with anger.

He said, “You approached me just to take Juliet away from me? You’re the despicable one!”
Hearing this, Jared didn’t get angry; instead, he let out a cold laugh.
He stepped forward and pulled me out of Elliot’s arms, holding me tightly.
He gave Elliot a challenging glance and said, “If you had cherished her, could I have taken her away? After all, it’s
because you weren’t capable enough to keep such a beautiful
woman.”
Elliot trembled with rage and then attempted to confront Jared.
However, Jared merely waved his hand, and a group of bodyguards quickly surrounded Elliot. He said: “Mr. Wilson, trespassing on private property without permission is an offense that will face legal consequences.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he raised his hand, and the bodyguards who had already surrounded Elliot promptly escorted him out. Elliot was burning with rage but had no way to vent it, so he could only leave in fury. Watching his awkward, defeated retreat, I couldn’t help but chuckle.I thought, “He deserves it.”

However, before I could even enjoy the moment, Jared spoke again. “Juliet, when will you care about me the way you care about Elliot?”
He sounded incredibly pitiful, as if I owed him something.

No matter how I tried to explain, it was completely useless, and I ended up having to comfort him the entire night.
That night, I was compelled to repeat over and over “I like Jared the most” countless times.
It wasn’t until I was half–asleep that I vaguely heard him murmur, “When will you remember me? Little liar.”
I tried hard to search my memory, but I couldn’t find any impression of Jared whatsoever.
Finally, I was too exhausted to stay awake and fell into a deep sleep.
In my dream, a little boy wearing a white shirt took my toy.
I had a big fight with him, eventually pulling out a handful of his hair until he begged for mercy.
Afterward, I generously treated him to the first ice cream of his life, and proudly told him, “Don’t worry. We’re friends now. From now on, whenever you face any difficulties, you can come to me for help.”
“You don’t have any friends? Then I’ll be your best friend!”

As the memories became clearer, the little boy’s face gradually transformed into Jared’s.
When I jolted awake, I found Jared lying beside me, sound asleep.
I wanted to ask him directly but then closed my mouth instead, gently tucked his blanket, and fell back asleep.
Our story continues.
The end.
