Chapter 9
In the sixth month of living abroad, I would occasionally hear news from back home.
I heard that Marcel and Nyla both died. One died at home, and the other died at a mental hospital.
It is said that after Marcel returned to his country, Nyla once requested to meet him, using the
reason that she had my message.
Seeing Marcel’s disheveled appearance, Nyla suddenly burst into laughter, laughing hysterically.
The medical staff wanted to administer a sedative to her, but Marcel stopped them.
Nyla had laughed enough and finally gave Marcel a sarcastic and pitying look.
She said, “Marcel, you never saw your own heart.”
“Marcel, you were really contradictory.”
“You loved Alexa in front of me, and loved me in front of Alexa.”
“On the surface, you seemed to care about me, buying me those jewelry and accessories, but in the end, most of those pieces ended up in Alexa’s room.”
“You took me to the restaurant that Alexa had always wanted to go to, wanting to try the dishes she likes in advance, but in Alexa’s eyes, it was as if you didn’t care about her at all.”
“Alexa thought that you liked me, but you only liked Alexa.”
“It’s quite funny, Marcel. Alexa never opened the cabinet filled with jewelry until she left.”
Marcel’s eyes were about to burst. “Enough!”
Nyla continued, “Do you know what her reaction was when I sent the picture of the bed to Alexa?”
“She didn’t say a word.”
“Marcel, your way of loving someone is actually pushing her further and further away, hahahaahaha-”
“I had said enough!”
Marcel snatched the sedative from the medical staff’s tray and injected it into Nyla’s artery, abruptly silencing her laughter.
Marcel remembered the day of the wedding when he raced home regardless of his image, but found a scene of shattered debris in the art studio.

At that time, it seemed as if all his blood had been frozen. The art studio was clearly within reach, but he dared not take a step forward.
The ground was covered with densely scattered pieces of paper, and he recognized every single one of them. They were the ones drawn by Alexa.
But each of them fell apart, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t put together a complete self.
He suddenly felt that he had also shattered along with these pieces of paper and couldn’t put
himself back together.
Why else would the heart ache so much, aching to the point where even the fingertips tremble.
Nyla died in the desolate and barren ward, and she couldn’t close her eyes until her death.
Marcel returned home in a daze, looking at the painting he had copied over and over again, but couldn’t return to the original one. He held his head and cried in pain.
Later that night, I set fire to the painting.
He said, “Alexa, I’m sorry, but I really loved you.‘
When I knew about these things, I felt very sad.
It’s not so much a pity, it’s just that things have changed and no one could have imagined that we would end up here after going round and round.
Isiah poured a glass of water and handed it to me, saying, “Sister, have a drink of water.‘
I took the water, and Isiah sat down next to me.
“What are you planning to do with the inheritance Marcel left for you?”
My gaze fell upon the gift agreement sent from across the ocean.
“Donate it in his name.”
“What about me?”
“What?” I didn’t react for a moment.
“I… When were you willing to give me a status?”
I burst into laughter, watching the sunrise by the seaside, where two seagulls were flying side by
side.
The sunlight spilled onto the vast sea, cut into shimmering fragments by the waves, and then

carried by the sea breeze towards the distance.
Those old people and old things will eventually be forgotten, in the long river of time, all we can do is move forward.
“So… it depends on how you perform?”
The sunlight eventually pierced through the darkness, and I also welcomed my own rebirth.
