Chapter 14
“You think you’re any better?” Carol’s eyes widened, her fake smile dropping “You knew! drugged you, but you still screwed me over and over Now that you’ve had your fun, you’re just going to throw me away?” She laughed coldly. “You know what? You are the one killes Sloan.” While letting the words sink in, she proceed, “I was nothing to her if you hadn’t been so lustful and make her jealous, she wouldn’t have killed herself
“No… No!” Wyatt’s whole body stiffened. His hands gripped his head as he banged it against the ground. “She wouldn’t You killed her
Blood and tears mixed with the dirt beneath him. The exhaustion of the last few days finally caught up and Wyatt passed out.
When he woke up, he was naked in bed.
So was Carol.
The hotel door suddenly burst open.
A swarm of reporters flooded the room, cameras flashing relentlessly.
Wyatt’s face twisted as he realized what was happening. He glanced down to see Carol draped across him, wearing nothing but a thin slip.
The reporters shouted over each other:
“Mr. Finley, is that your sister?”
“Mr. Finley, did Sloan really kill herself?”
“Mr. Finley, how do you feel about The Tanner going up against The Finley because this incident?”
The barrage of questions and the flashing cameras made Wyatt’s foggy mind start to clear. He didn’t need to think twice this was a setup, orchestrated by his oh–so–beloved sister to force his hand into marriage,
Sure, the video could’ve been Al–generated. No one would’ve believed it anyway without solid proof and eventually, people would’ve forgotten about it. But getting caught in bed together? That was a whole different story. Even without a biological connection, the scandal would be enough to ruin them both.
Wyatt stared at Carol in disbelief. She was willing to destroy her own reputation just to drag him down with her? He couldn’t believe he’d ever been interested in someone like her. Carol was nothing compared to Sloan not even close.

Sloan would never have betrayed him like this. She always put his future above everything else. Thinking about her now made his chest ache like someone was driving a knife. straight through his heart.
Carol stirred beside him, her arms wrapping around his waist as she trembled. “Wyatt, I’m scared.”
Wyatt’s gaze darkened. The tenderness he once had for her was gone.
His eyes narrowed as he coldly shoved her off the bed. “Get your filthy hands off me!”

The sound of her hitting the floor was loud and sharp. The reporters gasped.
Wasn’t Wyatt supposed to be known for his gentle nature? How could he be so brutal toward a woman?
Carol winced, clutching her side as pain shot through her ribs. Cold sweat dripped down her face. But as the blinding flashes of the cameras lit up the room, she forced herself to crawl back toward the bed. Wrapping the blanket around her exposed body, she looked up at him with teary eyes.
“Wyatt, I’ve loved you since I was eighteen. You promised to marry me. You raised me, nurtured me, speaking every word of love. How can you be so cruel to me now? I’ve even endured the humiliation and the jealousy. I did it for you! Are you really going to throw all of that away?”
Her voice broke and there was real emotion there. Carol’s feelings for Wyatt had always been genuine she wouldn’t have endured all this humiliation otherwise.
But after Sloan’s death, Wyatt treated her like the enemy.
Carol’s tears were enough to make anyone feel sorry for her.
Wyatt, however, felt nothing but disgust.
“Marrying you?” As he slipped on his shirt, his gaze darkened. “You’re not even worth one of Sloan’s fingernails. Don’t even dream about it.”
