Chapter 13
Wyatt’s head buzzed and he stumbled back a couple of steps.
The charm was something Sloan’s late adoptive mother had left her. She’d always valued it deeply and she only gave it to Wyatt after they made their relationship official
No wonder Sloan took it back yesterday. She’d already made up her mind to leave him.
No That couldn’t be true.
Sloan had been standing right in front of him yesterday, smiling like sunshine. How could she have killed herself?
His eyes were bloodshot as he shook his head violently and shouted, “No way! Sloan, come out! Didn’t you always want to marry me? We even have a baby together–how could you leave me?”
Sloan had been with him since she was eighteen. They’d been together through everything -from their first time to stepping into marriage. Six years of love–there was no way she’d just leave him.
She didn’t have any close friends in the city. If she wasn’t at The Tanner, then she was probably at the Rosehill Cemetery visiting her mother.
Wyatt jumped into his car and sped toward the Rosehill Cemetery.
The staff there smiled politely and said, “Mr. Finley, Miss Sloan had her mother’s grave relocated a few days ago.”
Wyatt’s face paled as if he’d been struck by lightning. He lunged forward and grabbed the staff member by the collar. “What? That’s impossible!”
“Here’s the contract with Miss Sloan’s signature,” another staff member quickly offered, sensing the tension.
Wyatt snatched the contract and stared at the signature at the bottom–Sloan’s name, marked with a clear red fingerprint.
His hands trembled and he stumbled back before collapsing to the ground.
Sloan had even moved her mother’s grave.
When had she decided to leave?
His mind raced, trying to figure it out. Was it when he’d hooked up with Carol at home? Or that time Sloan had been visiting her mother’s grave while he was screwing Carol in the
car?
There were so many moments like that. He’d always thought he’d hidden it well enough that Sloan wouldn’t notice.
But in the end, he’d only been fooling himself.
“Sloan… I’m so sorry.”
Wyatt’s heart twisted with regret. He collapsed to the ground, repeating her name over and
over.

Carol arrived moments later, driving up in her sleek car. She watched Wyatt’s broken figure and scoffed internally. Stupid bitch. If you’re going to die, just die quietly. Why make such a dramatic exit in front of Wyatt? Pathetic.
She walked over, faking concern as she knelt beside him. “Wyatt, come on. Get up. It’s cold out here. Sloan wouldn’t want to see you like this.”
Wyatt’s head snapped up at the sound of her voice.
A sudden flash of memory hit him–those videos from the wedding. The ones Carol had insisted on filming during one of their office hook–ups, claiming it would be a fun keepsake.
Why had that video shown up at the wedding?

His eyes darkened as rage surged through him.
Without warning, Wyatt swung his hand and slapped Carol hard across the face. “Why the hell did that video show up at the wedding?” Wyatt’s voice was dangerously low. “I told your not to ruin my plans! Were you that desperate to climb the ranks?”
He sneered. “You’re pathetic. My family should’ve never taken you in.”
Carol clutched her stinging cheek, her wide eyes brimming with tears. She hadn’t expected Wyatt to snap like this.
Her lips parted as she tried to explain. “N–no. It wasn’t me, Wyatt. Someone must tricked me.”
Wyatt cut her off with a cold laugh. “Do you think I’m an idiot?”
He leaned in closer, his eyes flashing with disgust. “You think I didn’t know what you were doing? You drugged me the first time you crawled into my bed. Carol, you’re nothing but a cheap whore!”
