The sunlight outside was blinding. James shielded his eyes with his hand.
I saw tears seeping through James’s fingers.
In the car, James collapsed onto the steering wheel, sobbing loudly.
I had imagined many times how James would react when he learned of my death, until I saw James like this.
Was he feeling guilty, or heartbroken?
I didn’t know, and I didn’t want to know anymore.
Perhaps it was my fault for keeping the truth from James at first, but I had given him everything I could.
But after James returned to the country, he not only believed Vanessa’s lies about the cornea donation, but also came to my home to insult and humiliate me. He even hurt my elderly mother and young sister.
I couldn’t forgive James anymore.
Meanwhile, James had locked himself in his room for half a month, with takeout boxes piling up on the floor.
I saw James’s phone constantly ringing, all calls from Vanessa.
He must have felt annoyed, but he still answered.
“James Foster, what do you mean by this? Are you trying to back out of the wedding? All the guests are waiting at the hotel!” Vanessa’s voice
came through the speaker.
I had almost forgotten that today was supposed to be James and Vanessa’s wedding day.
Perhaps I had forgotten, and so had James.
James calmly replied, “I’m not going through with this wedding.”
On the other end of the line, Vanessa suddenly exploded.
“You think you can just call it off? James Foster, don’t forget who found you the cornea donor, who made it possible for you to see again!”
James let out a cold laugh.
“Think whatever you want!”
With that, James hung up.
I just couldn’t understand how Vanessa could still shamelessly take credit for everything, even now.
James blocked Vanessa’s number, and the room fell silent again.
I thought James would continue to wallow in despair, but soon he rushed back to the company.
His assistant had informed him that Vanessa was causing a scene there.
