“I’ve found out that Serena wasn’t taken by Eddy,” Matt’s voice was emotionless. “I’ll need a few more days to track her whereabouts. Don’t worry for now.”
Vivienne initially breathed a sigh of relief, but then tension quickly set in again.
“What happened to Serena? Why is she hiding?”
After a brief silence, Matt explained, “It seems she offended someone and fears retaliation, so she’s in hiding… Don’t worry, once I find Serena, I’ll smooth things over.”
Given Serena’s knack for rubbing people the wrong way, Vivienne didn’t doubt Matt’s explanation.
After thanking him, she hung up the phone. But shortly after, a text popped up on her phone.
“Vivienne, aren’t you worried at all that your friend has been missing for so many days?”
Recognizing it as a provocation from Lillian’s side, Vivienne was about to delete the message when a photo came through first.
It showed Serena tied to a chair, her mouth sealed with duct tape.
Vivienne’s gaze hardened, and she immediately dialled the number.
The call was disconnected. Then, another message came through.
“If you want to know where your friend is, come to this café. Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to you.” Looking at the address in the message, Vivienne fell into thought.
It was a well–known cafe in the city center. Normally, even if she went alone, she wouldn’t be in any danger.
Usually, aren’t hostage exchanges done in more secluded places? Why would they want to meet here? And hadn’t Matt told me that Serena’s disappearance had nothing to do with Edmund? Why would Lillian know Serena’s whereabouts? Could it be that Serena was in Lillian’s hands?
With a trace of suspicion, she decided to go to the cafe.
The cafe was moderately busy. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary from the outside. As she entered, a well–trained waiter approached her.
“Miss, do you have a reservation?”
Vivienne mentioned her table number, and the waiter led her over. As soon as she sat down, Vivienne spotted a familiar figure.
Sensing her gaze, the woman gently lifted her head.
“Ms. Everest, you’ve come.”
Vivienne eyed the elegantly beautiful woman warily. “What do you want from me by calling me here?”

After Lillian ordered a coffee, she looked back at Vivienne.
“Eddy is out of town, so I could arrange this meeting. Otherwise…”
She smiled softly, a hint of helplessness on her face.
“Otherwise, Eddy wouldn’t have let me out of the hospital.”
“Did Ms. Lillian invite me here just to show off?”

“I heard Ms. Everest is currently seeking a divorce from Eddy. Although I’m not sure if you really want a divorce or if it’s just a pretence, it doesn’t matter. You can never change anything.”
Unlike Victor’s brash arrogance, every expression on Lillian’s face and every word she spoke canned an unparalleled confidence.
“Between me and Ms. Everest, he will always choose me first.”
Vivienne listened quietly, then spoke, “If that’s the case, why isn’t it you he married, but ”
jillian smiled. “That’s because I let him be with you… The unattainable is always aginaned; otherwise, why do you think he’s so nice to me now?”
At that moment, the waiter brought the freshly brewed coffee. The rich aroma of the coffee filled the air, tinged with a slight bitterness.
Vivienne tired of the pretence, cut to the chase. “Is Serena in your hands?”
“No, she’s not with me; she’s with Eddy,” Lillian said with a smile. “She’s the main culprit behind my suicid attempt. How could Eddy let her off easily?”
Vivienne stared intently into Lillian’s eyes. “You’re saying she’s with Edinumade”
Lillian looked surprised. “Serena is your best friend. She came to scold me on your behalf and offended Eddy. You really don’t know where she is?”
“So, does Ms. Lillian know where she is?”
“No.” Lillian’s brows lightly furrowed. “From what Eddy said, he plans to give her a taste of her own medicine, to let Serena experience what she put me through. Her words that day did upset me, but they weren’t the main reason I tried to kill myself. I didn’t want a life losu ower this maner, but I couldn’t sway Eddy. He was determined to avenge her.”
