Chapter 11
Derrick didn’t come to me again, but every time in the hallway, stairwell, or playground, I would always accidentally run into him.
When he saw me, he quickly glanced at me a few times and then hurriedly walked away.
The breakfast on the table, the snacks in the drawer, remained as usual.
The time on the wall slipped away quietly from the pen, with the number 6 changing to 1, and the number 1 changing to 0.
Three days before the college entrance examination, the school started its vacation.
The day before the college entrance examination, Marcus called in a fluster.
In the past, there was a problem on Derrick’s side, and he found out!
My heart suddenly sank, and the overwhelming panic only lasted for a moment before being
quickly suppressed.
It’s okay, once I know, I know, and I can bear the consequences.
Marcus said that no one could persuade Derrick, and he asked me to go see him, but I refused.
No matter how he caused trouble, there were always people backing him up, and it had nothing to
do with me.
Tomorrow is the college entrance examination, and I couldn’t afford to be distracted by it.
Derrick couldn’t believe it. “How could you have become so heartless in the past?”
Here we go again with this phrase.
Since the incident happened at home, I have heard this sentence many times.
After a long silence, I spoke in a low voice, “Marcus, you should know that I had no obligation to
reciprocate his feelings.”
If he had mentioned beforehand that doing these things required emotional rewards, I would have
refused without hesitation.
Marcus choked. “You!”
“You have also helped me a lot, so, do I have to love you too?”
Marcus: “Well, not really… No, it’s not possible.”

– Beep.
I hung up the phone.
Marcus dialed in again, and I answered the call.
He explained, “I didn’t tell him about this, so please don’t misunderstand me.”
I knew that even biting dogs knew not to bark recklessly.

Marcus paused for a moment and said, “Sylvia, did you call me a dog?”
– Beep.
I hung up the phone again.
The sun was shining brightly outside the window, and the cicadas were chirping incessantly, making people feel dizzy and overwhelmed.
I opened the first page of my notebook, but I couldn’t turn to the next page for a while.
Five minutes later, I closed my laptop and went out.
Since it significantly affected efficiency, it was resolved before reviewing again.
The Howard family’s villa was very large, and they had a driver to pick them up from the gate and drive them to their residence.
This was not my first time here.
Six months ago, I stood here and had a conversation with Derrick’s mother, Mrs. Howard, about a
deal.
Mrs. Howard led me to a certain room, hesitated for a moment, and then shrugged.
“I locked myself in the room and refused to come out, ignoring anyone’s calls.”
I went forward and knocked on the door, but no one answered.
“Find someone and break the door directly.”
As the words fell, the door cracked open a little.
Derrick stared at me coldly as I pushed open the door and squeezed throu
he crack.
Sitting on the sofa, I got straight to the point and asked, “As the college entrance examination is approaching, what kind of tricks are you playing again?”
Derrick was furious, “How dare you question me?!”

I poured a glass of water and drank it. “Why don’t I have a face?”
“I neither broke the law nor disregarded moral principles. Every single thing, which one of them wasn’t consensual between you and me?”
“How much money did you sell me for like this?!”
“Add one point, one thousand, if you can perform normally in the college entrance examination, it will probably be over one hundred thousand.”
I needed money, and Mrs. Howard needed him to learn French.
That bet, from beginning to end, was a trap that I set up with Marcus.
All the previous tutors were driven away by him. In order to make him willingly study, some extreme measures had to be taken.
Derrick’s chest heaved rapidly. “Good, it was really good!”
He snatched the cup from my hand and said, “It’s my water, I won’t let you drink it!”
“I came to find you under the scorching sun, without asking you to reimburse the travel expenses, and you didn’t even offer me a drink of water?”
Derrick slammed the water cup heavily on the table in front of me and turned his head, ignoring
- me.
I took a lenient attitude and urged him to take the exam, but he didn’t pass, so I couldn’t settle the
payment.
He accused me of deceiving his feelings, and I felt helpless.
“When you solemnly agreed to the bet, you never mentioned that you would have to invest genuine
emotions.”
“Sylvia!”
“I was there.”

He got angry with me because I knew he was playing games, but I didn’t refuse, and then I agreed with him and then dumped him.
I was silent.
At first, I didn’t refuse because I was afraid that it would affect his mood and his grades. I planned to wait until after the college entrance examination.
Later on… there was a bit of a dilemma.

“Here we go again?”
Derrick sneered, “With your cunning and calculating skills, who could make you suffer a loss!”
As a big fool like me, I fell for your trick and worked so hard to learn, only to end up serving you…
I drank some water, remaining noncommittal.
I never forced him from start to finish. If it wasn’t for him wanting to play a trick on me, agreeing to the bet, and insisting on arguing with me using a dictionary until the end, I wouldn’t have fallen for
- it.
“You… You were unrepentant even in death!”
“I had my faults and you had yours, we clashed and clashed, what do I have to repent for?”
“Sylvia!”
“I was there.”
