Chapter 5
During a certain period of time, I had the illusion that Derrick had taken over my life.
By memorizing vocabulary and practicing targeted exercises, his French grades improved rapidly.
By the end of the year, I unexpectedly managed to reach the passing grade.
At the same time, Harley passed me a note during a late–night study session.
After evening self–study, I went to the flower bed.
I glanced at it and ignored it.
The dormitory was not very convenient for studying, so usually after the evening self–study session, I would stay in the classroom for a while.
But there was no intention to pay attention to such malicious invitations.
Little did he know, Harley hurriedly returned after the person had left.
“I looked for you to shatter your illusions, it didn’t harm you!”
Hearing this, I inexplicably let her pull me to the flower bed.
Harley took me to hide behind the haystack.
In the dimness, a man and a woman were arguing, it was the voices of Derrick and Vivian.
Emotions were just a small matter, regardless of the outcome.
Vivian stubbornly believed that Derrick had feelings for her, but Derrick was not very patient.
“Come on, Vivian, wasn’t it you who said that you were being harassed by a male classmate and asked for my help? What kind of drama is this again?”
Going back and forth, Vivian became infuriated.
“Don’t think that I didn’t know, you bet to win over Sylvia before graduation!”
“Derrick, believe it or not, I could make her roll out of Westwood High School!”
Derrick fell silent for a moment and then said coldly, “What can I see in her, a poor and destitute student?”
“I chased after her just to win the bet, you know, I’ve never lost a bet with Marcus.”

Upon hearing this, Vivian affectionately coquettishly with him.
As soon as Derrick left, she came around to me, with a pure smile on her face.
“Sorry, in the past, I grew up with Derrick and knew his personality,”
She tilted her head and said, “Seeing you constantly vacillating, I’m afraid you hold onto some unrealistic fantasies and will eventually get hurt.”
I looked at her, speechless for a moment.
Is it that everyone, as a habit, tends to hide their selfishness under the guise of doing good for
others?
Back in the classroom, the person on the seat looked up, recognized me, and tilted their head with a
smile.
“Where did you go? The door was left open, and the air conditioner was almost running out of hot
air.”
Derrick made room for me and I sat down next to him, correcting and explaining the mistakes as I
went along.
Suddenly, there was a warm feeling on the body, and a large down jacket covered the shoulders.
“Is it so cold? Shivering like this.”
I just noticed that the hand holding the pen was trembling slightly.
I did not stay away from Derrick as Vivian wished.
Even, I did my best to help him meet my requirements.
By the time winter vacation arrived, he had memorized over half of the French–English dictionary.
The last winter vacation of high school began officially after the Lantern Festival.
Marcus invited me to watch a fireworks show.
“At Celestial Lake, just for one night, you could have accompanied me, a friend, to relax before the college entrance examination.”
I thought about it and agreed.
After school, Derrick happily came to find me and invited me to attend his mother’s birthday
banquet.

Unfortunately, it happened to be the day when I had an appointment with Marcus,
“I had something to do, please say hello to my aunt on my behalf.”
“Shall I say hello to her on your behalf?” Derrick’s displeasure flashed for a moment as he quickly grasped the key point.
“Sylvia, you care so much about my mom, do you care about me?”
I ignored him and packed my backpack before leaving
Derrick caught up with my footsteps and said, “Isn’t it, Sylvia?”
“Is it? Is it?”
“Sylvia, you definitely cared about me!”

The trees on the avenue were bare, but he buzzed around me like a bee.
Almost turned the winter scenery into spring.
