Chapter 5 Repentance
His words left me speechless with grief.
My chest ached, and before I could speak, tears began to fall.
With all my strength, I pushed Felix away and shouted, “Get out! Felix! I never want to see you again!”
The loud argument woke my sleeping parents. They immediately rushed to me. My mother held me in her arms comfortingly, while my father brought me an ice pack.
Bob said, “Harper, I always felt Felix wasn’t a good person. I shouldn’t have compromised!
“He’s gone too far, daring to mistreat my daughter in my own home.”
Bob frowned, continuously smoking.
Then came another knock at the door.
Felix was outside, saying, “Bob, I’m sorry. I’ve come to take Harper home.”
Bob looked at Felix, momentarily speechless, then turned to search the house for a weapon, intending to drive Felix away.

you’re angry, but this is between me and my wife. Only Harper has the right to hit me.”
I was furious. I would never speak to Bob like that, yet Felix was
so arrogant.
I grabbed a nearby ashtray and threw it at Felix’s head, shouting, “Get out! I don’t want to watch you act! There’s no point in playing this fake, insincere role now.”
Felix dodged the ashtray, came to my side, and held my face, saying, “Kelly hit you first, why didn’t you tell me?
“You’re my wife. Of course you’re most important to me. This isn’t fake sincerity.”
I pushed his hands away and said, “Don’t touch me. It’s disgusting! Just sign the divorce papers and stop wasting time.“Felix grabbed my hand and asked with a wounded look, “Harper, do you really have to treat me this way? Just because I got drunk and Kelly brought me home, you’re going to do this? Fine, I’ll compromise. I’m sorry I didn’t consider your feelings. We’ve been married for so many years, and I’m sincerely here to apologize to you.““Today, in front of your parents, I promise that from now on I’ll keep my distance from Kelly, or if you say we shouldn’t have any contact at all, that’s fine too, as long as you don’t divorce me.
“There’s really nothing inappropriate between Kelly and me. Since your pregnancy, you’ve been suspicious of me. I knew that one day you would accuse me out of jealousy.”

I suddenly realized I didn’t know Felix at all, this man who slept beside me every night. He had the audacity to lie so shamelessly to my face.
Unless I had concrete evidence, I guessed he would never admit to his relationship with Kelly.
He said, “I swear I’ll never do anything that makes you unhappy again. Just don’t say those hurtful words about divorce anymore.”
Looking at Felix, I worried that if I didn’t agree to his request today, he would keep pestering me.
With tears in my eyes, I said, “Fine, you’re not allowed to contact Kelly anymore. Can you do that?”
“Of course I can!”
I smiled to myself, thinking, “He’ll never be able to do it.”
I nodded and said, “Alright, you can go home first. I’ll come back after some time.”
Felix left happily.
