Chapter 23
When Devon, who was so drunk that he could barely stand, got into the car to go home, she couldn’t help but laugh as she watched his head fall onto her shoulder.
“He clearly couldn’t handle so much, yet he insisted on showing off. Now, look at him, he’s drunk.”
It seemed like he heard her teasing, and he restlessly rubbed against her, his soft hair brushing against her earlobe, tickling her and making her unable to resist moving away slightly. However, he muttered a few words and adjusted his position, leaning back against her shoulder again.
At this moment, his entire weight seemed to be pressing on her, although he was reeking of
alcohol, Adeline didn’t find it unpleasant.
“Adele…”
The mosquito–like sound made her almost think she was hallucinating, but the following words
were all drowned out by the constant flow of traffic noise.
She wanted to listen carefully to what he had said, but she heard the driver reminding him that they had already arrived at their destination.
Helpless, she had to pay first and helped Devon out of the car.
Devon and Adeline lived not far from each other, and their apartments were on higher floors.
Luckily, there was an elevator, otherwise, she wasn’t sure if she could bring him home successfully
on her own.
Seeing Devon stumbling around, Adeline knew that he wouldn’t be able to take care of himself,
luckily, he still remembered how to go back to his room and, upon seeing the familiar layout, he
instinctively returned to the bedroom.
Upon seeing this, Adeline finally breathed a sigh of relief, but before she could finish exhaling, she
heard a muffled thud coming from the bedroom.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly ran into the bedroom. As soon as she saw it, she burst into
laughter.
The bed was just a distance away from where he collapsed. At this moment, he slept peacefully, not
knowing whether he had truly fallen asleep or passed out.
Afraid that he might fall and get hurt, Adeline had to step forward to check. It was then that she noticed he didn’t fall directly onto the ground from the corner where the blanket slipped off, but rather he first fell onto the bed and then tumbled down from there.
Adeline let out a long sigh and resignedly helped Devon back to bed. Just as she was about to get up to cover him with a blanket, he reached out with his long arm and trapped her in his embrace.

She was startled and struggled to break free from his embrace, but despite feeling her resistance, he held her even tighter.
Her head rested on his firm chest, and the man, with a hint of alcohol on his breath, gently whispered into her car, causing her face to blush uncontrollably.
The next second, just as she hadn’t finished listening to the complete sentence, Adeline finally
heard it.
“Adele… I liked you…”
The warmth on her cheeks made her momentarily forget what day it was, and she instinctively struggled to break free from his embrace, but in the end, it all turned out to be in vain.
Until drowsiness struck, she saw no hope of leaving and eventually fell into a deep sleep, not knowing when.
That night, both of them slept well.
The bad thing was that Devon woke up the next day with a hangover.
He looked at Adeline, who was still sleeping in his arms, and his mind kept replaying the stupid things he had done last night. A rush of warmth surged through him, and his face turned as red as if it had been cooked. His arm, which was pinned down by her, also involuntarily stiffened.
The “pillow” suddenly became hard, and Adeline uncomfortably rubbed it, trying to readjust to a comfortable sleeping position. But the next second, she seemed to suddenly realize something and abruptly opened her eyes.
The chaotic consciousness instantly became clear when it saw Devon’s enlarged, flushed handsome face. Her face also turned red in an instant. She scrambled out of his embrace and,
somewhat annoyed, rubbed her disheveled hair.
How did she fall asleep like this, and… sleep so deeply…
“Um, I… I was just walking you back, it was you who…” She found it difficult to continue her sentence, as the warmth on Devon’s face had not yet faded. He mumbled a vague “uh” and there
was no further conversation.
Adeline, seeing that he did not react, felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured on her. She hurriedly ran towards the direction of the bedroom door, wanting nothing more than to quickly leave this place of trouble.
But as soon as her hand had just grasped the doorknob, Devon’s hand also covered it.
