Chapter 17
Adeline did not doubt their abilities.
After all, we are all top students who have been promoted from various schools. We have written countless papers, and our writing abilities are definitely among the best.
Therefore, after leaving the laboratory, the first thing Adeline did was close the laboratory door, isolating herself from the curious gazes inside.
“Tell me, what is it this time? Why did you bother to come all the way to find me?”
She looked at Brent as if she was looking at someone, she knew but wasn’t familiar with, and couldn’t help but feel a little surprised.
Doesn’t Brent like to go abroad?
So, when Mariah was abroad, he would often make excuses to go on business trips and travel abroad. Now that Mariah has returned to the country, he still goes abroad every day.
Adeline furrowed her brow, lost in thought when Brent’s voice interrupted her train of thought.
“Adele…”
However, he had just spoken when she ruthlessly interrupted him, “Mr. Wilson, we have already divorced. I believe, considering our relationship, we haven’t reached the level where you can call
me by a nickname. It would be better if you called me Ms. Nolan.”
She was polite yet distant, building a high wall around herself. In the past, he was someone inside
the wall.
And now, he has become the person outside the wall.
Brent forced a bitter smile, although he didn’t want to change, he was afraid of angering Adeline and losing this hard–won opportunity to talk. However, the title “Ms. Nolan” was too unfamiliar to him, and those three words were repeated countless times in his mouth, but he still couldn’t say
them.
After weighing the pros and cons, he chose a compromise by directly omitting the salutation.
“I didn’t want to marry her. The child was her own doing, taking advantage of me being drunk and climbing into my bed, Adele… Actually, I had stopped loving her a long time ago, but I couldn’t accept it in my heart, so I couldn’t see my true feelings. Can you forgive me this time? I truly know I was wrong. Please don’t reject me…” The slip of the tongue in the address was swallowed back under her gaze.
His attitude was sincere, but now Adeline no longer needs his sincerity.
She shook her head and looked at him, a familiar outfit but it made her unconsciously remember

the time when she married him.
When he looked at himself back then, his gaze was equally gentle and affectionate.
However, at that time, she did not see clearly who his tenderness was directed towards, and now
she dared not believe anymore.
“You said you were unwilling to let go of Mariah because of the regret of youth, but how can you be sure that your feelings for me now are not because of my voluntary departure?”
“Mr. Wilson, no one stays in the same place forever. We should all move forward, and you have already moved forward. So have you.”
Listening to her words, Brent kept shaking his head, “No, Adele, no, I am very clear, my feelings for you are not unwillingness, Adele, I have truly fallen in love with you.”
“When I separated from Mariah in the past, although I had regrets and felt sad, her influence on me wasn’t actually that profound. I admit that there were reasons why I chose you over her, but everything that happened between us was real, and my feelings for you were genuine!”
Brent thought that these words would at least make her hesitate for a moment, but her gaze
became even more determined.
“But Brent, if your feelings for me were genuine yet you still chose to deviate from the path, then it
can only mean that your emotions were too cheap.”
“And I, deserve better.”
As the last sentence fell, Adeline had already turned her back and waved at him before pushing open the laboratory door again.
