Chapter 3
Watching the drama in the group chat, Caroline didn’t give any response.
She kept swiping through the photos of food, looking at them and ther at the ramen in front of her.
Instantly, she lost her appetite.
After a while, she sighed and irritably scratched her head with short hair.
The suffocating feeling in her heart seemed to be ignited by something, causing her to feel a piercing pain. Caroline picked up her phone and clicked on her chat box with Graysen.
“Why would you change?”
“Do you like Marlene that much?”
She tapped her fingers rapidly but ended up deleting the words one by one. After a while, she washed up and quietly lay down on the bed.
The next day, when Caroline arrived at the squad, she saw a bag of breakfast and three fresh red roses placed on her desk.
No need to say, this must have been
Caroline’s cold and numb heart rega

Although she usually dressed like a tomboy, it was all for work. Privately, she was a cute girl.
Caroline loved romance and fiery red roses.
There were envious gazes from teammates surrounding her.
She pursed her lips, peeling the eggs while looking at the notice of the squad. Suddenly, a notice popped up on her phone.
Caroline opened it and saw that Marlene had updated her Instagram.
In the photo, she was holding a large bouquet of red roses and standing in front of the hospital window with a bright smile. Beside her, a man was holding a glass of milk, ready to feed her.
Marlene even blatantly captioned it.
“Three withered roses cannot compare to a bouquet, and seven years with you are no match for three months with me. Step aside.”
Caroline stared at the big hand in the picture and her hand that was peeling the egg froze mid–air.

The black mole the size of a sesame on the wrist indicated that it belonged to Graysen
Caroline’s gaze fell on the bright red rose beside Marlene, and they were even harder to look at
She grabbed the roses along with all the breakfast on her desk and threw them all into the trash can.
The teammate sitting in front of her asked in astonishment, “Why are you throwing your food
out?”
Caroline glanced at the trash bin and said indifferently, “It looks disgusting. I can’t eat it.”
At that moment, Graysen walked in.
As soon as he saw Caroline, his eyes lit up with joy, and there was a doting smile in his eyes. He asked, “How did you sleep last night?”
Caroline raised her eyes and glanced at him quietly.
Then she replied calmly, “Not bad.”
Graysen nodded and took out a pair of polyester gloves from his pocket, handing them to Caroline with the usual concern in his eyes.
“Yesterday I saw that your gloves were worn out, so I got you a new pair. They are your size. Try
them on.”
As an elite bomb disposal expert, Caroline wore out her gloves faster than anyone else in the squad, with an average of one pair per week.
One of the team members used to sarcastically say that Caroline changed gloves at the speed of three people. However, only Graysen knew that she had spent a long time practicing bomb disposal, causing the wear and tear.
But Caroline never explained.
Looking at the gloves in her hands, which were the right size and had a comfortable feel, Caroline knew that these were not the squad’s supply but were bought by Graysen with the money out of his pocket.
“Did you spend money again?”
“It’s worth it as long as I spend it on you.”
The familiar conversation went on as usual. Violet Goff, the teammate sitting in the front seat, turned around and teased the couple, saying, “You soon–to–be–married lovebirds are indeed different. You are making me jealous.”

Graysen smiled shyly, but Caroline had no joy in her heart.
She couldn’t help but wonder if Marlene would post the same pair of gloves on her stayson Ster
This was to prove that whatever Graysen gave Caroline, she had it too
Caroline stared at her phone almost as if torturing herself, her face tense Graysen, who was standing beside her, noticed something was wrong and gently pushed her, adking, “Thurmond? Why do you look so awful?”
Caroline smiled self–mockingly and answered, “I didn’t sleep well last night. I’ll go to bed early
today.”
Graysen frowned at her disapprovingly, “I will check on you tonight. If you don’t go to bed early, 1
will knock on your door.”
There was another burst of laughter from the side.
People shouted, “Graysen is so considerate,” “Boyfriend of the year,” and “The nicest man of the squad,” and laughed together.
In the unseen corner, Caroline forced a bitter smile.
She didn’t understand why Graysen, who had been in love with someone else, still pretended to be a devoted boyfriend in front of her all day long. What was the point?
As if verifying something, after everyone in the office went to the practice field, Caroline stood at Marlene’s workstation and carefully inspected it.
The next second, she saw neatly arranged gloves occupying the entire drawer, the same color and fabric as what Graysen gave her.
Even in the hem, there was embroidery with the words “Marlene Wagner“.
Caroline took out the gloves from her pocket and unfolded them, and a name came into view.
At that moment, many memories flashed through her mind. The joyful laughter of the two of them sharing a cup of juice back in high school, Graysen holding her and crying together in front of her parents‘ bodies on a stormy night, and he carrying her and spinning her around in public when they both got accepted into the police academy.
In just a few minutes, those fragments faded away bit by bit as if being devoured by fire and turning
into ashes.
“Graysen, I don’t want you anymore…”
