Chapter 28%
As Iris picked up some food with her cutlery and placed it onto Wendel’s plate, she spoke casually, “Didn’t you say you wanted to go to London with me? When we get there, I’ll focus on my studies, and you can find a simple job. Once we graduate, we’ll get married. How does that sound?“R
Wendel nodded eagerly, feeling as if happiness had crashed into him all at once, overwhelming and intoxicating.
Inis poured him a glass of liquor and said softly. “Drink this, and let’s put the past behind us–completely.”
Without hesitation, Wendel lifted the glass and downed it in one quip i
He didn’t notice that there was no warmth in Iris‘ eyes.
She simply smiled, refilling his glass over and over again
He didn’t know how many drinks he had consumed, only that his head was spinning.
In his drunken haze, he pulled Iris into an embrace, murmuring, “Iris… you’re finally coming home with me…
“No Wendel.”
Her once gentle voice turned cold, devoid of emotion
“This is my home. It always has been. It always will be 71
Before his muddled brain could process her words, a sudden force yanked him upright
A group of police officers stormed into the restaurant. Before he could react, cold steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
The alcohol–induced fog in Wendel’s mind cleared slightly as he stared blankly at the officers surrounding him.3
“What’s happening?” he stammered in confusion.
The leading officer spoke stemnly. “We’ve solved a child abduction case. Your ex–wife, Esther, has identified you as an accomplice. You’ll need to come with us!
Wendel was stunned
He stood frozen, taking in the surreal scene before him–then, suddenly, he laughed.
It was a hollow, bitter laugh, the sound of a man watching his beautiful dream shatter into a thousand bloody shards, revealing the brutal truth underneath.”
Slowly, he lifted his gaze, eyes brimming with tears, and met Iris‘ icy store.
His voice trembled. “You. You were working with them? You set me up.
“You tricked me. Iris, you deceived me, didn’t you?u
“Does your heart not ache at all? Not even a little?”
Iris?“X
There was no desperate screaming, no uncontrollable sobbing–just red–rimmed eyes staring at the woman who, moments ago, had smiled and painted a future with him.
And in an instant, everything was gone.
Inis‘ face remained expressionless. There was no guilt, only relief
“I’ve been waiting for this day, Wendel.” Her lips curled into a smile, one she no longer needed to suppress.3
Two lifetimes.
She had finally lived to see the day this man was caught in the web of justice.!!
Wendel refused to accept it. He struggled violently, shouting, “I had nothing to do with it! That crazy woman–she did it on her own! It was all her! I had nothing to do with it
“Why are you arresting me?! Go after her Execute hert Do it now!“}
His voice cracked as his panic turned into full–blown hysteria, making him look utterly deranged.
The police officers, unimpressed by his tantrum, barked back, “Shut up and come with us!”
Iris hadn’t expected to witness this pathetic spectacle–two snakes turning on each other in their final moments.
And just like that, Wendel was dragged into the police car!
Before they shut the door, he turned back to look at this one last time
“I told you–we’ll meet again. I will never let you go
Iris felt nothing.X
Because she knew the truth..!
They would never see each other again.
One month later, Inis and her family boarded a plane to London, British Columbia 2
A place where consistently mild temperatures existed–a place where she would never again have to endure the bitter cold of past memories.
A place where she would never a
ragain have to wash an entire family’s clothes by hand.
2.25 PM
