Chapter 27%
A chill ran down Iris‘ spine
Her father immediately noticed her unease. “Iris, did something come to mind? Do you have
we any l
leads?
Ins hesitated, nodding at first, then shaking her head. “I’m not sure… but I have a hunch“))
With that, she revealed everything–how she had secretly met Wendel last time and discovered that Esther had suddenly appeared with a baby.
Margaret gasped in shock. “Why didn’t you tell us about something this serious?!”
The police chief leaned in, his expression tense. “Did the child have any distinguishing features? Was it a boy or a girl?”
Iris struggled to recall. She had never gotten a good look at the child. But knowing Esther’s obsession with giving Wendel a male heir. there was a high chance the baby was a boy.
The chief scribbled notes on a notepad, his face grave. “Alright. Do you know where this Esther lives?”
Iris shook her head. “I’m not sure of their exact address, but both she and Wendel work at a nearby factory”
With that, the police chief quickly thanked them and left, heading off to investigate.

After spending countless days loitering outside Iris‘ home, Wendel finally saw her!!
She was dressed in a flowing white dress, her hair tied into two soft ponytails. A touch of makeup accentuated her features, making her even more beautiful than before.
Wendel’s heart pounded violently.
Instinctively, he ducked into the shadows, afraid that if she spotted him, she would turn around and disappear forever.
But to his surprise, her footsteps grew closer, heading directly toward him
Moments later, her voice rang out behind him.8
“If you wanted to see me so badly, why are you hiding?“8-
Tve known for a while that you’ve been waiting here for me.“8
“You said you’d go to London with me, what’s wrong? Are you planning to break your promise?”
Wendel was stunned.
Disappointment could leave a person speechless–but so could overwhelming joy. His mind went blank.
Inis chuckled, tilting her head slightly. “I’m asking you a question. Why aren’t you answering? Why are you always hiding from me?” Wendel looked at her in disbelief. “Iris… are you here to make up with me?”
She smiled, her voice as gentle as a summer breeze. “What else? Do you think I came here just to argue with you?“!
Wendel couldn’t believe his ears. He turned around, meeting Iris bright, laughing gaze.
And at that moment, he couldn’t hold back anymore.
He pulled her into his arms, his body trembling, his voice breaking as he sobbed.
“I thought you’d never forgive me. Do you know how scared I was?“:
Iris gently patted his back, her voice was warm, though her eyes remained icy cold.
“Alright, enough crying. I came out today to make up with you. Let’s go have a meal together, shall we?”
Tears still streamed down Wendel’s face, but he nodded eagerly. “Yes! Let’s go right now.”

They went to a state–owned restaurant and ordered several dishes that Wendel usually couldn’t afford.
Even with Iris sitting right in front of him, he still found it hard to believe.l
After a moment, he hesitated, then asked, “itis. have you really forgiven me?”
She smiled and nodded, just like when they were kids. She reached out, pinched his cheek playfully, and teased, “Of course. Why don’t you believe me?”
“See? This isn’t a dream.”
“You promised to go to London with me. How could I not be moved? You’re the person I’ve loved since I was little.“}
Wendel touched his cheek–It hurt.
It wasn’t a dream.
Yet he still wasn’t fully convinced. His voice trembled as he asked, “Then, what happens to us now?”
