Chapter 24
Even if Cassidy screamed at the top of her lungs, Landon wouldn’t hear her. Not now, not ever. The walls of Silvercrest were suffocating, closing in on her with every passing second. Cassidy felt utterly powerless
When Landon finally regained consciousness, the woman standing over him was staring down with a cool, detached expression.
Her lips curled into a sneer as if she found him beneath her notice.
“Oh, you’re still alive? Thought you were dead. Right, ‘Dead Man‘?” she taunted.
Landon ignored her jabs, rolling over to sit up slowly, his movements stiff.
He rubbed his temples, fighting off the dizziness, then grumbled in a low voice, “Where is she? Where did she go?”
The mention of Zara immediately soured Cassidy’s mood.
Her face twisted into a bitter frown. “You’re still chasing after Zara?” she spat, her tone turning icy. “Let me save you the trouble, Landon. She’s already decided to go off and play house with her little boyfriend. What’s that got to do with you?”
As Landon’s expression darkened, her words grew sharper. “And what makes you think she’d still want you? Remember what you did to her? The
miscarriage, Landon. Have your ever thought about that? You’re a joke. You’re still trying to act like you’ve got a chance?” Cassidy’s voice was biting now, her eyes narrowing. “The kid you looked down on–Julian Hayes–he’s got everything. Power, influence, and love in the capital. He’s willing to stand by Zara and be her fiancé. But you? You made her the laughingstock.”
She leaned back on the swing, taking in his silent anger with a lazy smirk. “Face it, Landon. Your love is nothing compared to Julian.”
Landon didn’t reply.
Instead, he walked out of the room, his fists clenched so tight his nails cut into his palms. Cassidy watched him go, her smirk lingering as if she had already won.
She was willing to admit it. Cassidy was heartless.
But Landon? He still thought he could fix things with Zara. It was laughable.
Meanwhile, Zara was busy getting ready for her trip to Willow Town with Julian.
The luggage was packed, the flight was booked for the afternoon, and Zara couldn’t help but feel excited about the future.
But there was one thing she still needed to ask.
“Is Grandpa coming with us?” Zara asked as she zipped up her bag.
After all, Grandpa wasn’t getting any younger, and traveling wasn’t easy for him.
Julian, who had been pacing around, turned with a sigh.

“Not to be rude, babe, but Grandpa can’t come with us,” he said, a hint of disappointment in his voice. “We’ll go first, but after we’re married and have a baby, we’ll bring Grandpa to Willow Town. We’ll take a family photo then. How does that sound?”
Zara smiled and nodded, a small pout on her lips as she finished packing. But just as she turned to grab her things, a voice called out from the door.
“Zara, come out. We need to talk.”
Zara froze, a chill running down her spine.
It was already spring, but the air still carried a sharp bite in the capital.
“What the hell is he doing here?‘ she thought, knowing Landon had just recovered from a
fever.
Landon stood there in the doorway, pale and looking completely undone.
His eyes locked onto Zara, and for a brief moment, she almost felt sorry for him.
Almost.
But that sympathy quickly evaporated as she saw the tears welling in his eyes.
He looked like a man who had lost everything.
His voice cracked when he spoke. “Zara… please… don’t leave. Don’t go. I… I really need to talk to you.”
Zara’s stomach turned.
How could a grown man cry like this?
How could he break down in front of her after everything he had done?
She crossed her arms, trying to block out the mess of emotions budding inside her.
Landon’s voice broke again, pleading, “Please, Zara, don’t go… I can’t lose you.”
Zara’s expression didn’t change. She patted Julian’s arm, silently signaling for him to stay calm before turning back to Landon. There was no more pity in her eyes–just cold
indifference.
“What do you want?” she asked, her tone flat. “You’ve already lost me, Landon. You had your chance. You threw it all away.”
Landon ignored Julian and pushed forward, his hands trembling. “Zara… are you really leaving me? After everything we’ve been through?”
Zara just stared at him, her gaze unflinching. She could feel Julian’s hand on her shoulder, offering silent support, but the bitterness in her heart was too strong to ignore.
“You really want to know if I like you?” she asked, her voice laced with sarcasm. “Let me ask you something, Landon. When you made me have that miscarriage–did you ever think this day would come? Did you ever think about what you’d lose?”
Landon’s eyes widened, and the tears that had welled up in his eyes now spilled over.
Zara continued, “You had your ten minutes of fun, but I had to pay the price every single year. Do you know that? I miscarried for you. For you. But if I didn’t care about you, you’d
