- do.
“No! Please!” She shook her head frantically,
her makeup smeared. “I’m pregnant! It’s your
child!”
Ethan lowered the window, a cruel smile
playing on his lips. “Just like you said, it’s
just a game.
Jenny scrambled to escape, hearing the
engine roar to life.
“Aaah!!!”
Later, Jenny, covered in blood, was thrown
onto the ice again, shivering uncontrollably.
“Dance,” Ethan’s voice was like ice. “Don’t
you love to dance?”
Jenny’s lips were purple, but she had to
stand. With each step, the blood on the ice
<
spread. Finally, she collapsed, unconscious.
Jenny was hospitalized; the doctor told Ethan
she’d never be able to have children again.
Ethan found the doctor who’d treated me,
demanding my medical records.
When he saw “miscarriage at 8 weeks,” his
hand trembled uncontrollably.
He continued, each page more horrifying than
the last.
“Severe malnutrition”
“Fracture”
“Shock from forced blood draw”
“Multiple soft tissue contusions”
Memories flooded back.
It was Jenny, constantly whispering about me needing to lose weight, that had let the maids starve me. It was to appease Jenny that he’d
forced a blood transfusion on me while I was
running a high fever.
He slammed his fist against the wall, blood
welling, unnoticed.
Back in the empty mansion, without the quiet
figure waiting for him, the vast house felt
incredibly cold. Ethan slumped onto the sofa,
memories flashing before his eyes.
He realized he’d never disliked Lily. He hated
the humiliation of being forced into a
marriage. But when he’d seen the blushing
girl, a flicker of joy had appeared in his heart.
The early days of their marriage had been
sweet.
He’d go out of his way to buy things I loved,
I’d stay up waiting for him to come home
from his business meetings. Then my father
caused problems, and Ethan started to
neglect me.
He began womanizing, flaunting different
women in front of me.
Each time he saw me turn away silently, a
nameless anger flared. Why wasn’t she
く
jealous? Why wasn’t she upset?
He didn’t know that it wasn’t that I didn’t
hurt, but I cried where he couldn’t see.
Ethan buried his face in his hands, his
shoulders shaking violently.
He finally realized he’d thrown away the
woman who loved him unconditionally.
