Chapter 21
I was awakened as water was splashed on my face. My breathing was asthmatic. When my eyes were starting to clear, I could see them all laughing.
“Hi, Scarlett. We meet again,” Valerie ironically laughed while loosely holding the bucket in her hand. She was the one who had splashed water on my face to wake me up from my unconsciousness.
In front of me, Nolan was smiling with an expansive grin that sent shivers down my spine.
“Why did you kidnap me?” My voice trembled despite my efforts to be level–headed.
Nolan approached, his feet dragging confidently.
“You’re still wondering? What else but to get revenge on you. You’ve tarnished my image in the people’s minds. Now, let’s sell you to one of Vincent’s competitors,” he chuckled, contentment radiating in his tone.
I gritted my jaws, fighting to hold in the fury that was brewing within me
“You’re the one who started all that cheap drama in public, and ruined my life. And now you’re accusing me? What a joke.” I shouted half–ways.
“Whatever you want to say, Scarlett. But at least I was able to catch you,” said Nolan, gazing at me with eyes full of triumph. He took a walk, moving further away from me 3
Then I looked at my foster father who stood there innocently.
“Dad, Why did you get involved in kidnapping me with Nolan and Valerie? Haven’t I always been your daughter? Didn’t my real dad already pay you for all your services? And this is how you retum the favor to him?
I fired all the questions at him. He slowly walked towards me, and then stood in front of me. His expression did not change.
“I will answer all your questions, so calm down.” he smiled.
“First of all, your father only paid me one million dollars. Even though I had asked for five million. He gave me such a small amount like I didn’t mean anything.”
I gasped. My chest was being squeezed.8
“And secondly, I need a lot of money. So, whatever is about money, I will do. I don’t care where it is coming from, or with whom I need to join forces.”

“You’re a thankless man,” I spat.
“I once thanked you for having raised me and taken care of me. I even got my father to keep you out of prison, but you did all this and broke your promise.
“You’re a bastard!”
He was silent. He did not defend himself or deny it. That just made me all the more sickened.
“That’s enough, Scarlett. No need getting upset with your father. Now, just calm down. Just be silent so my plan goes as planned.”
My adoptive father spoke as he and the two of them chuckled in content. Valerie and Nolan grinned while exiting that room, and me alone inside.
The harbor night wind the next evening was cold against my body. I moved my body while my limbs were still bound. My legs dragged behind me. Valerie and my adoptive dad held me tightly, and Nolan guided them with confident footsteps.
At the far end of the pier, a man in black was already waiting. He was waiting near a luxurious car, and a few of his men in black uniforms with guns in their hands were standing behind him.
“Ah, you really did well, Nolan! I didn’t think you would be able to catch her,” said the man, his voice in hushed tones, a smile on his face. “Of course, Mr. Mateo, I’ll do anything for money,” Nolan replied with a soft laugh, the glint in his eyes an indication of victory!!
I struggled against it, but my body had weakened too much. Only the rage brewing within kept me conscious.
“Good, I’m sending this money to you, just as we agreed. This is only half of it, the other half I’ll send to you when I have Scarlett, of
course.”
Mr. Mateo motioned, and a big suitcase was brought to Nolan by one of his men. The suitcase was opened to show mountains of money neatly stacked inside. The harbor lights danced across the bills, and Nolan’s face sparkled with broad smiles.

“Good. I concur, Nolan answered, with a nod of satisfaction. He shut the suitcase and passed it to Valerie, who promptly vehicle. Nolan then made a hand signal accompanied by a nod to my adoptive dad.!!
“Now, hand over Scarlett to them,” he directed.
My adopted father dragged me towards the man in the black suit I kicked and fought as hard as I could, but they were overpowering.
“Welcome, Scarlett,” the man answered with an evil grin spreading on his face.

I glared at him in fury, trying to act brave while I was filled with fear!!
“Im certain Vincent will save me and chop off your head from your body afterwards,” I screamed.

“Oh, sure? Perhaps the opposite will happen, Scarlett. It’ll be Vincent that I t

He signaled to his men and then walked straight over and pulled me aboard the big ship docked at the pier. I was taken aboard the vessel. There, I could only watch my adoptive father, Nolan, and Valerie at a distance, with happy smiles plastered on their faces.
