Chapter 20%
Scarlett’s (Leona’s) POV
Alex drove quietly beside me in the morning. We had only just said farewell to my parents who had come to visit my brother. They didn’t ask anything too much, for some unexplained reason. Or maybe Alex already spoke to my parents.
“Alex, will Vincent ever forgive me?” I looked out the window, then broke into the silence. “How is he ever since I shot him, that one time.“} Guilt came rushing back into my heart in a second. I recalled the cold gaze in my own eyes at him, and how my bullet pierced through his body. Even now, after all the rational explanations provided by Alex last night, this guilt only grew.ll
Alex smiled weakly with his eyes never turning off the drive.
“Don’t worry, Miss. My master is aware of your condition then. His gunshot wound has also recovered a great deal.”
He answered as he gave me a face full of laughter.
“And to tell you the truth, you’re great. And it so happens that you’re a good shooter yourself. It seems that you should work with Mr. Vincent later on.“”
I scowled. “Don’t make fun, Alex. I’m serious.
“After you told me last night, I better than ever understood how irresponsible I had been and how I was allowing myself to be swayed by Jessica’s opinions. I ought to have researched before and not listened to just one side.”
Alex was only going to answer when something compelled him to fall abruptly silent. His eyes darted instinctively in the direction of the rearview mirror
turned around as well
“What’s wrong?” 1 whispered.
Alex didn’t respond immediately. His eyes continued staring behind us, his expression growing serious.
“There is a black automobile following us. It has followed us ever since we left the hospital entrance.
My chest constricted immediately. I swiveled around, looking at the car. Nothing really seemned out of place.
“It looks like there is something suspicious about that vehicle, Miss, Alex said at last.
I clutched my seat belt tightly, my breath slightly quicker.
A morning that was to mark the start of making all things right suddenly turned into a threat
“Try to speed up, Alex,” I ordered firmly, attempting to stifle the tremble in my voice.
Alex nodded hastily and then pushed the gas pedal down immediately. The car sped on the still empty morning roads. But the black car behind us. kept following.
I glanced in the rearview mirror. Their headlights found my eyes, approaching.
And then three quick shots rang out, loudly and crisply in the air. Our back window burst I flinched down automatically.
“They’re shooting!” I shouted.8
Alex gritted his teeth. “Miss, I’m going to do something. Stay calm.”8
Quickly, he pulled a gun out from beneath his coat, rolled down the window, and pointed his outward. Return fire fired out of the passing vehicle.
But now he was distracted, between shooting and driving on the highway. This was too dangerous.
“Alex, pull over and just focus on driving! 111 take care of them,” I shouted,
Alex nodded, his focus returned to driving. I took a deep breath, rolling down my window on the passenger side, and fired.
My shot flew past, striking the leading car’s front. Then another, directly at their front right tire.
Their car veered sharply, crashed into a lamp post running along the side of the road, and came to a halt with a clashin
I curled my lip in contentment}
But when I tried to shoot for the last time, I was out of bullets!
*Alex, can I borrow your gun? I am out of ammunition.”
Alex nodded hurriedly, one hand still on the steering wheel, while the other searched for his gun.
ning metallic bang.
But before he could pass his gun to me, a vehicle zoomed out of the intersection, skidding across our path and in front of us!!!
“Oh my God, Alex Brake, quick” I cried out.!!
The tires screamed as he slammed hard to the right to prevent a collision. My body was thrown into the side of the seat, my heart pounding furiously.
“Looks like they were ambushed here. We’re surrounded.”
The car jolted to a halt. In the front, the blocking car’s doors opened and four burly men stepped out, all dressed in dark faces impassive.”
Alex got out first. “Miss, I handle them.“”

The other two attacked me. I kicked one in the shin, then struck his chin with the gun butt. He stumbled but did not fall.
The other one grabbed my hair in the back viciously. I turned and struck his temple with my elbowl But their strength was too much. My breathing quickened. I stumbled when one of arm stiffly back.
em hit from the side and jerked my between my shoulders.
I screamed, searing agony shooting through my shoulder to my whole body. My gun fell from my hands and clattered onto the ground.
“Let go of me!” I screamed, and then kicked his groin with all my might. He let out a groan and collapsed.”
Alex was still fighting, taking one down, smashing another’s face until blood sprayed.
All of those men went down in a matter of seconds.&
I gasped, unsteadily standing beside Alex with a face–splitting grin. “We did it.”
Then someone grabbed my shoulder and jammed something into it.
There was a chilliness that quickly ran through my body. As I came around, I could see Valerie with a smirking face as she pulled out the syringe.
“Valerie, what’s happening?”
My body weakened all of a sudden. I could hear Alex screaming my name faintly, trying to help me. But then he was suddenly assaulted by a bunch of men. And my body couldn’t hold out anymore and collapsed with a crackling sound.
