My father patted my shoulder and disappeared from the car and into Samuel’s house.
Thirty minutes later, he returned. He was holding his face still but there was something in his eyes. I got to my feet, holding my breath. “What’s the result? Where’s Scarlett? According to you she already has the explanation and is willing to listen, right?” I asked eagerly. My father shook his head and sighed. “Samuel welcomed me warmly. But he sent a clear message
“They’re angry and disappointed in the way you’ve treated his daughter. Scarlett doesn’t want to see people who hurt her, and I didn’t meet her in the past few hours. And, says Samuel, whoever breaks his daughter’s heart, breaks his.“”

One day my feet came to a standsta

I paused for a moment. But my heart swept all that aside. I was only hoping to explain it to Scarlett. I stepped forward without fear.

Gosh, who would have thought it? The sudden stab of heat pierced my left shoulder. I was knocked backward, my knees instantly weak. She really shot me. Blood sprouted, but I never took my eyes off of her. It wasn’t the cut that hurt the most, reality that she didn’t want me that close anymore.
Quick footsteps sounded from behind. Alex approached me. He had soon turned his gun on Scarlett.
“Drop the weapon, Miss, or I’ll shoot you,” he growled.
“Alex!” I called. My hand lifted to halt him.
“Don’t retaliate.”
“But Sir, she shot you!”
“Don’t!” I repeated, softer.
Guilt and mercy free, Scarlett hopped into her car right away. And then she left me there with my laceration and her final, scomful look.}
